Our team

Kyle M-B
Membership, Programming

Kyle is a writer and director trying to make sense of herself and the world through her work. Her time is generally spent writing or thinking about cinema. She’s always down to talk someone’s ear off about Mike Mills, Michigan rap or independent black cinema. She has more Blu-rays and records than she’d like to admit and she’s never one to turn down a gab sesh over coffee.

Sylvie Miller
Programming

Sylvie Miller is an organizer, poet, and freak film lover. They’ve been a longtime supporter of Richmond DIY music events, eventually switching from attendee to organizer. They have organized events focusing on experimental, improv, ambient, noise, poetry, and performance. In recent years they’ve become involved with local screening groups, collaborating with New Habit Cinema, Working Room, and Hard Light Cinema.

Lewis Peterson
Programming, Finance

Lewis Peterson is a lifelong cinephile, who once saw an interview with Richard Linklater where he told the viewer that real film lovers should be “warriors for cinema” that share their love with the world. Lewis did just that. When not programming films with Hard Light, Lewis can be found spending time with his cat, painting abstractions, or lounging around cafes.

Syd
Operations

Syd loves watching movies by people who don’t usually get to make movies, and loves showing these movies to people who don’t usually get to see them. Descriptors like lo-fi, outsider, experimental, landscape, slow, long, and boring are often attached to the films Syd likes. Syd also makes music videos for noise, video jockeys at live events, sews badly, and practices taekwondo.

Tommy Jenkins
Operations, Programming

Tommy is a film school dropout turned movie addict with a special interest in fringe, experimental and political films. He is passionate about challenging the traditional cinephile canon by screening poignant and under-seen perspectives. He can frequently be found hosting events with Richmond City Cinema Club, attending local DIY events with friends, and cooking Filipino food at home.

Warner West
Newsletter, Programming

Warner West is a librarian who got into movies late but quickly caught up with the help of Letterboxd. When not helping write, edit, or help at events for Hard Light, Warner is a cohost of the Richmond City Cinema Club. He enjoys slow cinema, loose-leaf tea, and NBA basketball.

Jack Wolfe
Branding, Finance, Programming

Jack is a multidisciplinary artist in the fields of photography and film, along with A/V. Their passion for film was sparked at a very young age with an 8mm tape camcorder. When not scheming about the next big thing at Hard Light, Jack likes to spend their free time binge watching TV shows with their partner, playing video games with friends, and recording/playing music.

Jay Wilson
Operations, Website

Jay is a bit of a film newbie, but he’s got the right spirit. He’s into movies that are slow, movies that are fun, and whatever movies you’d like to show him. When he’s not working on the Hard Light website, you may find him at a show, at a cafe, or running down an alley.
