dir. Terence Nance
This film combines animation and real footage to tell the autobiographical story of the filmmaker, Terence Nance, and his time living in New York City with a romance that almost was. AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION OF HER BEAUTY also features original music by Flying Lotus.
We’re showing this film as a part of our Black History Month series, as well as an ongoing series highlighting independent black cinema. Terence Nance is one of the most interesting contemporary filmmakers-since this film was released in 2012, he’s gone on to co-direct Solange Knowles’ visual album, WHEN I GET HOME, as well as write and direct the HBO series RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS, for which he received a Peabody Award. He recently collaborated on the film component for Andre 3000’s album New Blue Sun. Safe to say, Nance is a creative Force of Nature, and he deserves a larger audience for his work. Please join us for an evening celebrating his often slept on accomplishments. We hope to see you there!
